South Bay’s biggest and littlest Eagles fan, John Arya, 7, request granted.
HERMOSA BEACH, CA—Wednesday, February 12, 2014–If you were one of the 5000+ revelers celebrating New Year’s Eve with friends and loved ones at Hermosa’s legendary Pier Plaza last month you know one of the evening’s highlights was the magical moment when the South Bay’s youngest Eagles acolyte John Arya, age 7, ambled up to the stage and requested that Big Band leader and beloved Beach Cities bel canto, Lou Giovannetti, sing Hotel California.
The devoted Dad of two young boys, local hospitality entrepreneur, and front man for Lou Sings Swing, an 18-piece orchestra comprised of the some of LA’s most gifted jazz artists and first-call musicians, performing live in a return New Year’s Eve concert engagement, stopped the show to address Master Arya, “I’d love to sing it for you, but I don’t know it”. Not unsurprising considering Eagles songs are not your usual Big Band set material.
Swingman Giovannetti then pledged to learn Hotel California, record it, and post it on Facebook at LouSings.com, “Give us a few weeks. Watch for it.” he promised the small Frey fan and high-spirited concert crowd now chanting Hotel California.
File this under New Year’s promises made and kept: In late January Lou went into the studio with guitarist Zach E. West and producer Paul Grogan to record Hotel California. The unplugged acoustic cut dedicated to little man John Arya, and New Year’s Eve concert-goers was uploaded to www.Facebook/LouSings and http://lousings.com/hotel-california over the weekend along with an update on the charities benefitting from the Big Band’s photo challenge announced at the first family-hour friendly countdown concert of the night long Pier Plaza celebration, a South Bay Holiday tradition, presented compliments of the Chamber and City of Hermosa Beach.
Hundreds of concert-goers shared their celebratory New Year’s Eve shots on LouSings Facebook page lured by Mr. Giovanneti’s pledge to donate $100 to five local charities designated by the winners, and award an iPad for the top pic posted chosen by Lou and his wife Grace Lombardi Giovannetti, who decided this holiday season would be about family and giving back to the community they love and live in. The New Year’s Eve Concert gig and photo contest provided another opportunity to do that.
Debbie Mariko Uyehara, Hermosa Beach native and UCI student won the iPad and designated The Tiger Woods Foundation’s Learning Center Scholarships program as her charity of choice. Other charities benefitting include the 1736 Family Crisis Center in Torrance, Hawthorne Islamic Center’s Saturday School, and the Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue in Lancaster. Winning photos and links to the charities are featured on Facebook at LouSings Facebook page.
